Making your home look festive for the holidays isn’t hard and it doesn’t have to be costly. You can add several colorful touches just by foraging through your own backyard. Decorating the house can be a family affair. The smaller kids can help gather the items you need and with a little help from the adults can even help to decorate.
A Pumpkin Wreath
Start with a grapevine wreath and cover it with moss. Put nails through the wreath and attach a small orange pumpkin on each one. Fill in the gaps with festive ribbon, leaves or artificial flowers.
Gather different types of leaves in various stages of color ranging from green to brilliant hues of red. You can paint a letter or design on each one and then string them in a row to make a colorful garland that can hang over a doorway or across a mantle.
Use candles decorated with leaves or small blocks that have been painted in festive colors. Letters can be painted on the blocks that say “Give Thanks” or “Happy Thanksgiving”. Add a few pine cones or colorful leaves for balance and to fill in gaps.
Log Candle Holders
Small logs can be cut up into small sections and hollowed out to make beautiful candle holders. Make sure to make the hole large enough to hold a small glass candle holder. You can also dip the bottom in gold, silver or bronze paint for an added touch.
Leaves can be hot glued to candles and then tied on with small pieces of string. They can also be glued to the side of glass jars and sealed with a clear adhesive to hold them in place to create festive candle holders.
These natural Thanksgiving decor ideas will not just let your home look beautiful, but will also make the event a more fun filled one for your family. Happy Thanksgiving!
