Spray Foam Roofing

Spray polyurethane foam is one of the most popular forms of insulation when it comes to roofing and protecting one's home from the elements. It is easily applied, sets up quickly and will remain in place for long periods of time without deteriorating or breaking down.

How Spray Foam Works Spray foam is produced by blending two chemicals and then forcing the mixture through a heated hose directly onto the surface where the insulation is to be applied. The chemical reaction creates a liquid that is turned into expanding foam when it comes in contact with heat. As it passes through the hose, the foam expands and spreads out to cover the surface of the area to be protected.

Two Types of Spray Foam There are two primary types of spray foam. The first type is extremely light and does not cover as much surface as stronger types of foam. This is known as open-cell foam. Closed-cell foam is dense, spreads more thoroughly and is much stronger than open-cell foam. This type of foam is more rigid and extremely durable. It is also more expensive.

Protects Against Interior Damage Spray foam roofing and insulation is capable of controlling even the smallest of leaks. If the foam is applied correctly, it will prevent water, debris and wind from working its way through to the interior of the home. As the foam expands, it creates a protective coating that effectively seals any creases or weakened areas that may be present.

Spray foam roofing and insulation is effective at protecting both the interior and exterior of the home if it is applied correctly. While many people may want to do it themselves, hiring a professional is always the best option when dealing with strong chemicals.
